Malalane

At the time of its completion in 1967, the Malalane Mill was the most modern mill in the southern hemisphere. It has undergone several capacity expansions over the past forty years and currently produces 237 000 tons of raw sugar per annum.

The raw mill produces brown sugar for the market place and the rest of the sugar is transferred to the refinery as melt.  The back-end refinery processes raw sugar from both Malalane and Komati Mill into top quality refined sugar.  Operating at full capacity, the refinery can refine 345 000 tons of sugar per annum, 85 000 tons of which is for export and the remainder for the local market.

Visits to the Malalane Mill are organised through the Visitors Centre situated at the head office in Malalane.
