TSB SUGAR supports transformation and as such played a proactive and innovative role in the settlement of 6000 hectares of the 32 000 hectares that was claimed on the company’s land in Malalane.
The Greater Tenbosch land claim was one of South Africa’s historic and biggest land claims and in a landmark settlement, which cost R1,1 billion, was undertaken by government and Tsb Sugar.
With a strong focus on sustainability and future growth, Tsb Sugar has since entered into a joint ventures and rental agreement with the two communities that were awarded the 6000 hectares, namely the Hhoyi and Siboshwa communities.
The joint venture companies, Libuyile Farming Services and Mgubho Farming Services are leasing 4800 hectares of the land at R12 million per year to continue growing sugarcane which plays an important role in the region;s economy, as well as contributing to employment and skills development.
The four year lease agreement which was signed in 2007 and ends in July 2011, is signed with Ingwenyama Simhulu Trust, who represent the Hhoyi and the Siphumelele Tenbosch Trust who represent the Siboshwa community.
As shareholders in the Joint Venture companies, the Trusts will also get a share in the profits from the sale of the sugarcane that is grown on their land.
